Texas loves Ravelry!

This past Saturday I had the chance to meet the Ravelry crew at a little party at The Knitting Nest. But I'm such a social weenie I didn't really talk to any of them other than to stare (politely, I hope) and nod and smile and say hi awkwardly.

The place was crowded and full of energy as Jess, Casey, Mary Heather and Caro made their rounds. It was easy to see where they were at any given moment - you just had to look for the small crowd with eager faces.

The foursome received official certificates proclaiming them "Honorary Texans" and there was a silent auction, door prizes (I got some cuddly yarn!), some spinning and, of course, lots of knitting! I bought more than I should have and talked less than I could have, but had a good time anyway.

What? You didn't think I was going to bail on only the second day did you? ;) Here I am. Better late than never. We had a relatively lazy day today. Bathed the cats. (That's always fun.) Laundry. Now I'm listening to the sound of the little church kids across the street filter through the cool dark evening. Kolaches for breakfast. Homemade macaroni and cheese for dinner. And...spinning!

I took a spinning class years (and years!) ago but haven't done it since. So, since knitting has more or less taken over my life, I figured I'd try my hand at spinning again. I ordered some lovely fiber and a handful of drop spindles and let them sit around for a few weeks. *ahem*

Until tonight.

I drafted my fibers. I played with my spindles. I spun them and watched them wobble ever so slightly at the end of my singles. I begged everything to keep spinning in the right direction. And you know what? I totally suck. I know I'll get better. But right now? Awful. My yarn varies in thickness from practically lace weight to super bulky. Yeah! We'll just pretend like I meant for it to be that way! Right? Right. It's arty.
