I need a break from the other Christmas gift I'm currently knitting (I get Second Sock Syndrome real bad sometimes...) so I biked my merry little self over to my local yarn store yesterday (sale!) and browsed for some yarn suitable for my sort-of-brother-in-law. (It's a long story. We'll just call him Rob. 'Cause, well, that's his name.) I ended up with some of this delicious cotton in green and shades of beige-ish. It's yummy and perfect for him and it's currently being knitted furiously up into Yarn Harlot's One Row Handspun Scarf, which is going very quickly. It's a super easy (like, seriously, really easy) pattern that involves learning one row, nothing fancy, it's reversible and with this yarn I'm using it's nice and thick and pleasantly drapey. It's cotton, so I guess it won't be as warm as a wool scarf would have been, but on the up side, it's incredibly soft and smooth. I cast on last night and I've got over a foot of scarf knitted so far, so I think it'll be a nice break from the knitting-with-toothpicks type of knitting that I've been doing lately. (Size 8/5.0mm needles feel enormous after those bitty size 0's and 1's!)
I think this scarf pattern would be really great for a just-past-beginning knitter - it's very simple, but not boring looking, and it goes quickly so there's that instant gratification factor, which is always nice!
so smart of you to think about Christmas.. it is only 5 months away.:D

cici - It seems like forever, but I know if I don't start now I'll never get it all done in time! (Plus, I have to have time to squeeze something fun in for myself!)
