It's that time again! Time for my monthly edition of things I love. Linkable things, that is. Because I love a lot of things that aren't on the internet! Like bacon. And the cool October breeze and early evenings.
Anyway! First up: ZipLens. I rented a wide angle lens from these delightful folks and I couldn't have been happier. The prices were extremely reasonable, they offer insurance ('cause you never know when you might drop that lens into the Grand Canyon...I didn't, but you just never know...), the shipping was right on time, and the lens was perfect! There was no way I could ever have afforded to buy it, but I knew I wanted something special for our big vacation. Happily, I knew of ZipLens through Flickr, contacted them a couple months ago, and reserved the 10-20mm, and shazam! Super landscape photos! If I'm ever feeling the need to expand beyond my current collection of lenses for a brief period, I will definitely be calling them again. The whole process was simple and highly rewarding!
Next, Blue Sky Alpacas. They make the most luscious cotton yarn I have ever felt. I talked a friend of mine into buying some for her first knitting project. (Yes, this student.) It's the dyed organic cotton and I'm in love with it. Whenever we meet up for a knitting date, I fondle it. Seriously. I'm not ashamed of my yarn molesting.
Now I waffled about adding this next one to the list. I don't know why...at first I thought it was because I was hesitant to "love" a product, but hello! That's what I do, a lot of the time. I mean, yarn? That's a product. Somehow I'm OK with recommending yarn, but I feel a little squidgy about recommending software. Regardless, that's what I'm about to do. I don't even remember how I came across it, but somehow I did and I couldn't be happier with it. It's Budget, a fun little piece of financial software for Macs. (Sorry PC people...) And yes, I did say fun! OK, so I am the kind of person who keeps meticulous financial records, so maybe I'm biased. But this software is so easy to use and really makes keeping a budget easy. It works on the envelope system of budgeting, where you set aside a certain amount of money each week (month, whatever). So basically I put in my monthly expenses once and then every payday I enter my pay and it magically flies into all these little virtual envelopes so I know exactly how much money I've got and what I can spend it on! It does require you to input every transaction in order to keep accurate records, but you're doing that in your check register anyway, right? Um, right? If I didn't have this software, I would be in really bad financial shape but, as it is, I can keep track of my meager earnings and plan my savings. Yay! (Plus, it's cheap. And you get free upgrades!)
Now for something completely different...Utata is my favorite group on Flickr and my second-favorite photo-related website, after Flickr itself. The people are wonderful and there's such a sense of community. Plus, we do projects! Who doesn't love a project? I haven't been very active lately due to getting a "real" job, but you should check out the website. The front page always amazes and inspires me, when I remember to stop by... Plus, did I mention there's projects? (What's a little shameless self-promotion amongst friends?)
Lastly, the whimsical wonderful cards of uccello curioso. I've been lusting after the "I love you like I love fish tacos" one for ages and one of these days I'm actually going to buy it.
I hope you are all enjoying autumn!
