January socks, part 2

Since January's socks, part one, were finished, I started on "February's" socks. But I think they've gone back to being January socks because they're completely finished. In fact, they have been for some time now. The pattern is Thuja and it's super simple. It uses larger needles than any other sock I've made, and larger yarn. It may be the only way I'll knit man-socks from now on! I always forget how long man-socks take on my usual size 1 needles with fingering weight yarn. Those long feet! But these? These went super fast. Each one took about a day or so, with a few days break in between. (Details on Ravelry here.) The pattern is a very simple ribbed design that would get boring if it went on longer, but since it goes so quickly, it's not so bad. They are definitely a watching TV or a movie kind of sock. (There was many an episode of 30 Rock on Netflix knitted into these!)

I rather like the yellow and white yarn, but I have a hunch that the intended recipient wouldn't be too keen on wearing yellow socks so I'm planning to overdye them. Probably a dark blue, which will most likely end up a dark green due to that lovely yellow. I'll be sure to post an after-dyeing photo!

And now I'm on to February's socks! (For real this time, as these are knitting up a lot slower...)

I'm so jealous. You have no idea how much I want to knit socks--my friends think I am a loon I mention it so frequently. There is just SOMETHING about knitted socks. Unfortunately, I can barely knit; I can knit, I can purl, but not well.

Sooo...I will just gaze at your socks and continue the dream.

Alrighty, I've totally been dreaming of knitting up some yellow socks. Your socks are great, and redying to make sure they are worn is a good idea. I can't wait to see your Feb. socks--that yarn is too cool.

You can do it! It's really not so hard once you get the hang of it... This is an excellent free tutorial - it's what got me started!
